Eagle Pass City Councilman Luis Sifuentes registered his candidacy for the Mayoral position election on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Mr. Sifuentes was accompanied by his wife, children, mother, friends and supporters as he officially registered for the February 2020 election.

Sifuentes has been serving the community as a public official since 2008 when he was elected to the City Council Place 4.

“In February 2008, with the support of my wife and family,

I made the conscious decision of seeking the office of the City Council member Place 4. It was a decision we prayed over after realizing that the only way to make change in our community was to get involved,” said Sifuentes. “Eleven years later; many projects behind us; many projects ahead of us; and with much support we continue to serve.”

“Now the time has come for change as Mayor Ramsey English Cantu seeks to represent us as our Representative for District 74. Mayor Cantu and Mayor Foster (may he rest in peace) taught me many things about leading our Community. Together, even though we didn't always agree on everything, we were able to make many positive changes in our community. So now the time has come for new leadership!

I thank Mayor Cantu for all he has done and I wish him much success. After much discussion with my wife and family, we have decided that I will register for the vacant seat for the Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass. I love our community, and I will work to continue to improve all areas of public safety, parks & recs, planning dept, Bridge dept, Main St. program, and implementing tools to help promote economic development,” added Sifuentes.

“This was not an easy decision, but was one we felt was needed to continue to move our City forward and take it to the next level. I humbly ask for your prayers and for your support as we move forward to have the honor of serving as your next Mayor. God Bless You and may God continue to bless our City.”
