Former Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu announced on Monday, November 22, 2021, that he will be seeking to be elected as Maverick County Judge in the upcoming 2022 elections.

Cantu registered at the Maverick County Democratic Party Headquarters on Monday and held an announcement event at the steps of the Eagle Pass Public Library where he was accompanied by his family, friends and many supporters.

"There's much to be done. But we can't do it alone. We can only do it if we stick together. That's how Eagle Pass and Maverick County will continue moving in the right direction. If each of us here today commits to make a change we’ll be ready to move this community forward," stated Cantu.

Mr. Cantu is enthusiastic and looking forward to hitting the campaign trail as he looks at defeating incumbent Maverick County Judge David Saucedo in the March 2022 Primary election.

Cantu and Saucedo are related as they are cousins, which will definitely make this electoral race very interesting.

Ramsey English Cantu has served our community for more than close to 15 years. He was first elected to the Eagle Pass City Council on May 13, 2006, as the youngest individual ever to be elected to the Council at the age of 22.

He served as Eagle Pass Mayor for 10 years since 2010. In 2019 he ran for the Texas House District 74 seat.

He now looks forward to running a campaign for the Maverick County Judge seat.
