The City of EP Awarded $400,000 Grant From The Texas Governor’s
Office For The First Responder Grant Program
Eagle Pass, TX – Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. and the City Council are proud to announce that the City of Eagle Pass has been awarded a $400,000 grant from the Office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The First Responder Grant has been designated to pay for overtime personnel staffing costs and equipment.
The Eagle Pass Fire Department has been experiencing a significant increase in emergency calls due to the influx of non-documented immigrants crossing through our United States/Mexico Border. The increase in calls has placed a strain on providing Emergency Medical Services to the residents in our community. The grant funding will provide the City of Eagle Pass with the adequate financial resources to cover overtime costs to meet the increased demand for our Emergency Medical Services.
“The critical grant funding awarded to the City of Eagle Pass will ensure that our citizens receive Emergency Medical Services without any interruption and in a timely fashion,” said Rolando Salinas, Jr., Mayor for the City of Eagle Pass. “The increase in emergency calls has placed a serious strain on providing these much-needed services to our local residents.”
“The City would like to thank the Office of the Governor for approving our grant funding request that will enable us to provide additional staffing to meet the high demand for our emergency services,” said Ivan Morua, Acting City Manager. “The funding will alleviate the City’s rising overtime personnel costs in meeting that significant demand.”
