(Uvalde, TX)-

The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas (KTTT) traveled to Uvalde last month to donate $150,000 to the families affected by last year's shooting at Robb Elementary.

Located just south of Eagle Pass, Texas on the US-Mexico border, KTTT is one of three federally recognized tribes in the State of Texas and has about 1,100 tribal members.

The Tribe was officially recognized by the Texas Indian Commission in 1977 and continues to serve its members along with communities in need as the second largest employer in Maverick County, Texas.

KTTT gifted the donation to Uvalde families with assistance from Representative Tracy King (D-Batesville), who has represented Uvalde for nearly two decades in the House and graciously connected the Tribe to the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department.

The nonprofit Volunteer Fire Department, which had raised $15,000 for the 15 families back in October 2022, was able to ensure that all funds donated by KTTT went directly to those affected by the senseless tragedy that took place last May. Chairman Juan Garza, Jr., stated, "The donation will offer tremendous relief for families grieving lost loved ones and families of survivors, covering any necessary living expenses while staying home with their children as they recover."

Families have each expressed gratitude for this unexpected gift.
