In a bold move, one of the most perplexing political interchanges in the history of Eagle Pass and Maverick County, County Judge David Saucedo named, now former city councilwoman Asalia Casares the new Commissioner of Precinct 2, replacing Daniela Flores-Aleman who had held the position since February. "Today is a great day in our community," stated Judge Saucedo, "For the simple fact that we have somebody who has worked diligently, somebody who has worked hard all of their career to serve the city of Eagle Pass and for me it's an honor to be able to give her the opportunity to serve the citizens of all of Maverick County.

" Casares will now be the commissioner of what Saucedo confirmed "The largest precinct in Maverick County." "I would also like to thank Commissioner Daniela-Aleman for her service for the time she gave to the citizens of Precinct 2. We congratulate her on her tenure and we thank her for the time she put in, but now we move on with a new commissioner, Ms. Casares, who is willing to sacrifice the time and from I understand is gonna be in it for the long run. I know she's going to bring the precinct up to snuff where it needs to be and lead our community." "I'm very thankful to you coming by to support me and I just want to tell the community that I'm very excited that I was selected to be the appointed commissioner for Precinct 2 and I know that I will try very hard to do everything I can to improve the living standards and our community in that area," before she was sworn in before a large group of onlookers which included Mayor Ramsey English-Cantú and Interim City Manager Gloria Barrientos who must now seek a replacement on the council or arrange for an election which may need to be held. As of press time we were unsure of procedure in this type of lateral move involving two of the largest entities in Eagle Pass. Casares is not the first to leave the city to come to a struggling Maverick County which finds itself embroiled in a cauldron of federal investigations, several officials awaiting a wide array of court cases and a deficit which after the approval of the 2011 audit, a deficit which we will not be able to place a figure on until the audit for Fiscal Year 2012 comes in. County Auditor Fidencio Ortiz also left the Finance Department with the city to become the man in charge of overseeing the finances of the county. Time will tell what the procedure will be to replace Casares on the council which is also at a pivotal point as both the positions of City Manager and Chief of Police hang in the balance.
