An accident involving an Eagle Pass Police Department unit occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday on the intersection of Ferry and Ceylon.

The case is under investigation by the Maverick County Sheriff's Department as is the protocol when an accident involves either one or the other in order to avoid any conflicts of interest in the investigation.

What was visible at the time cameras arrived on the scene is that the EPPD unit seemed to have been traveling northbound on Ceylon.  According to witnesses, the unit seemed to be responding to a disturbance when it went through the intersection which must be a busy one in the morning hours, striking a charcoal grey in color Chevy Tahoe.

Also visible was the damage to both vehicles especially the police unit whose entire front end was crushed and its hood raised.  According to sources, this unit is one of the better units left over from the previous units as it is a different color (Charcoal grey) and is very well equipped.

The damage to the Tahoe was to the front left on the driver's side.  What cannot be determined from the picture is from which direction the Tahoe was traveling prior to impact.

The accident remains under investigation by the Maverick County Sheriff's Department.
