A horrific accident that left one man dead, his 17 year-old daughter severely injured and at least four others with injuries which also required them to be transported to local and area hospitals occurred on Veteran's Blvd. almost directly in front of the EPISD Language Development Center as Rafael Gustavo Vidal, 47, who was fatally injured was approaching the EPISD Maintenance Department and Transportation parking lot.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:28 P.M. on Monday, when Vidal was driving south on Veteran's Blvd. in a 1984 Pontiac Bonneville and was accompanied by his seventeen year-old daughter, and unbeknownst to officials investigating the accident, lost control of his vehicle and rammed into oncoming traffic traveling north and impacting at least three other vehicles, one head-on which left both vehicles completely demolished and Vidal lifeless behind the wheel of his car in a brutal mass of mangled metal completely on the other side of the road.

The wreck leaves authorities wondering how he managed to lose control of his vehicle and a family reeling due to the loss of a loved one who unofficially was an employee of Wal-Mart.

The accident froze traffic for hours as rescue personnel attempted to free the victims who most needed medical attention from the wreckage including Vidal's daughter, Miguel Alfredo Cervantes, 19, who was severely injured and was airlifted to San Antonio, Bryan Santiago, 19, Jesus Canales, 19, Nasario Hernandez, 18, and Adriana Morales, 32, who suffered minor injuries.

According to the report, the Bonneville driven by Vidal clipped a 2005 Chevy Cavalier driven by Morales on its backside before going directly into a 2001 Daewoo driven by Cervantes.

Another vehicle, a 2011 Chevy Camaro, driven by Denise Jimenez, 32, also sustained serious injuries.

Chief of Police Antonio Castañeda stated that hey will wait for the results of autopsies on Vidal to attempt to determine why he lost control of is vehicle.
