San Antonio, TX – The outcome of the election in the 23rd Congressional District remains uncertain, despite media reports stating otherwise. Numerous voting irregularities were evident during early voting and occurred on Election Day as well. The nature and magnitude of these irregularities must render any determination of the race premature.
Campaign Manager Scott Yeldell outlined the concerns and the next steps in the days ahead. "There are voting abnormalities in multiple counties that are being investigated. Legal authorities are being notified and personnel from the Secretary of State’s office have been in the district monitoring voting at the request of our campaign,” said Yeldell.
Yeldell continued, “Of particular note, the Canseco campaign discovered one county was double and triple counting votes during early voting which prompted the Secretary of State’s office to become involved (copies of a sample of questionable early vote sheets are attached to this release as well as the complaint the campaign filed with the Secretary of State’s office); it has been reported that another county may have improperly photocopied ballots, which may be a criminal violation; and the extended delay of voting reports in other counties on Election Day leave other questions unanswered. There are too many disturbing incidents to declare this race over. During the next several days we will be looking into these reports to assure only legal votes have been counted in this election. Until a full accounting and investigation is conducted, this race is not over."
Statement from Congressman Canseco
Congressman Canseco had a clear message for those awaiting the outcome. "I want to thank the tens of thousands of people who supported our efforts in this hard fought race and who have stood by our side as millions of dollars from liberal attack groups were poured into this election. The race is not over, and it won't be until all votes are properly and legally counted."
