CBP Officer Juan Carlos Echavarria was found deceased in his bed by family member after his fellow officers arrived, concerned that he had not shown up for work that morning. CBP and EPPD blocked off the street to remove the deceased from his home. Justice of the Peace Tere Melendrez said the 54-year-old died of natural causes. Echavarria had medications in his home to treat high blood pressure and asthma, said Melendrez, which indicated that he had pre-existing health problems. No autopsy will be conducted. Echavarria’s wife was in Allende, Mexico, but was informed and had the body transferred to Memorial Funeral Chapel.
