The only difference is that these Saturday mornings, the ones lacing them up are youngsters from the ages of 6 through 12 as part of the EPYFCA, and they defend different colors like those of the Warriors, Cowboys, Broncos, Panthers, 49ers and Texas Boys.
Believe it or not, you can see some pretty talented athletes who, if you’re watching without any form of bias, you'd think were junior high freshman or even JV level football.
With the likes of Xavier Barrera, Jet Flores, Matthew Blanco, Luis Flores, Jose Hernandez, Jose Galvan, Alejandro Perez, Tyler Rodriguez, Anthony Paniagua, Adrian Rodriguez, Axl Picazo or Ezequiel Banda blocking, tackling, even running, passing or catching the football on any given Saturday, these kids will be ready to not only compete, but excel at the next levels.
Marvin Richardson, commissioner of the league, is proud to say that they have slowly been growing in size and popularity over the past few years, and now count with 15 teams and three cheer and dance squads.
In the pamper Division there are three teams: the Warriors, Broncos and Cowboys.
In the 8-U Division there are the Warriors, Broncos, Cowboys, Panthers and 49ers from Uvalde.
In the 10-U Division there are the Warriors, Broncos, Cowboys, Panthers and Texas Boys from Uvalde.
There is one 12-U team, the Wolverines, who compete in San Antonio and the Texas rattlers who will be competing at Nationals in Kissimee, Florida in December.
The three cheer and dance teams are the MRG Spirit Cheerleaders, the Flying Falcon Dance Team, and the Texas Boys Cheerleading Squad.
The Broncos 8-U and 10-U teams are the only undefeated teams left in the tournament.
Come by and see the South Texas style football action at its best, but don't wait too long; the league will be over before you know it. Games start at 8:30 a.m. and run through 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon at Eagle Field.
