New suspects are coming up in the gasoline fraud case by the City of Eagle Pass which is the case in which gasoline cards issued to city employees were used to steal fuel and money from the City. In the most recent information received from the Eagle Pass Police Department, Chief Juan Antonio Castañeda said that a car lot is also under investigation in which the cards may have been used to charge gasoline to the vehicles on the lot. The chief mentioned that as of yet there are no more details which can be released to the media at this time, but it is sure that more and more persons will be involved. Eagle Pass detectives and FBI agents are working hand in hand on this case and they will be traveling to Del Rio to discuss details with federal agents to see what advances have been made on this issue. This has been one of the most intriguing cases in recent memory which has raised the interest of local citizens. They are hoping to bring all details to light and all involved to justice as they are especially looking to gain restitution for the gasoline and money stolen. Five people have been formally charged in this case, yet authorities know many more are involved in this theft and they will be charged as well as soon as the Grand Jury provides their names and identities.

Eagle Pass

 

A six year-old child was hit by a woman driver in a Ford Expedition on Sunday at 5:00 P.M. on Pecan St. on the north side of Eagle Pass. According to the police report, the child sustained minor injuries, yet was taken to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center to be checked by professionals. His injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. Police informed The News Gram that the accident occurred when a group of children were playing on the street and the woman driving the Expedition hit the six year-old, but was not going very fast. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Romelia Lira, 32, of Eagle Pass. It was determined that the incident was an accident as was entered in the police report. The police department recommends that all drivers take much precaution when driving through residential areas and to make sure that their children do not play on the streets in order to avoid these unfortunate accidents.

Yet another wave of violence has hit Piedras Negras over night as 6 people were killed and one seriously injured in two seperate incidents, amongst the injured was a family that was attacked in their home and two women and two men were found executed in a taxi on the old road to Zaragoza half a mile away from a highly populated area. After several days of apparent calm, the city of Piedras Negras was again shaken by violent events that continue to cause fear and concern in local residents.
