On Saturday, however, the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs converged on the CC Winn Gymnasium and literally imposed their will on the Lady Mavs downing them 15-25, 22-25 and 14-25 in three straight.
From the onset, Alexander's front line were challenging every Winn offensive attempt with an average of 6'1" up front with creating a barrier which would cause all kill attempts to go long or face the wrath of consistent blocks by the Bulldog defense.
The Lady Mavs remained in the first set due to unforced errors by the Lady Bulldogs on kill attempts that were going long and blocks going wide, but the Alexander squad showed why they are at the top of District 29-AAAAA with Diana Scott providing the necessary firepower with incredibly athletic kills and unstoppable offensive sequences.
The Mavericks made runs to keep up with Alexander highlighted by Cari Garcia's six kills and Baker's four. Padilla, Gutierrez, Garcia and Abigail Gonzalez did all they could digging out incredible kill attempts with 11, 16, 17 and 12 digs respectively to keep some great rallies going as the Lady Mavs would absolutely not back down and a good crowd was on hand to see the action.
The Lady Mavs traveled to Laredo to square off with the Laredo United South Lady Panthers and fell in five sets. Details of this match were not available at press time.
The Lady Mavericks take on LBJ here on Tuesday at the EPISD Sports Complex Gymnasium.
