Evan Gloria's PAT was good to make the score 7-0. The second Eagle score came on an extremely athletic play as Chisum rolled left and saw that his primary receiver was covered so he managed to elude the South rush enough to get to the right side of his offensive line where there was nothing there either and just as he was about to tuck it himself and run for it, he found a streaking RJ Ruiz on the other side of the field for the 45 yard score, 14-0 Eagles. The Eagle defense played exceptionally well all night holding the Panthers to 115 yards of total offense. Safeties Kevin Chisum and RJ Ruiz both had interceptions and the Eagle front line and linebacking corps played well. Then in the fourth quarter, Chisum made the most of a broken play as he took a low snap and ran around left end 35 yards for the score. RJ Gomez made the key block to free Chisum on the play. On the final Panther drive, they had the ball 1st and goal to go from the two yard-line and the Eagle D came up big with four key stops Alex Hinojosa, Rolando Fernandez, Evan Gloria and Isaac Hernandez leading the charge and Tyler Guillot, Martin Contreras and Michel Montalvo sealing the deal for the hometown defense. "Our defense played lights out," said Head Coach Tom Gonzalez, "The Panthers only crossed the 50 yard line once all night long, I'm very proud of the job they did on Thursday." The Eagles host LBJ at the EPISD Football Stadium next week.
