Saturday April 5, the Eagle Pass Eagles won the district 29-5A track and field championship in Laredo, Texas. Earning gold medals were Ty Chisum in the triple jump, Victor Garcia in the 800 meter run, Louis Cortez in the 400 meter dash, and the quartet of Rudy Valdez, Victor Garcia, Riche Gonzalez, and anchor Louis Cortez in the 4x400 meter relay.
Hector Alvarez (3rd place 2mile) and Martin Lopez (4th place 1mile run) also qualified for the area meet in Weslaco next week. Deshawn Franklin will compete in the 100 meter dash after a third place finish of 11.80, Jose Valero placed third in the 200 m with a 22.96.
The Eagles head out to the Area meet in Weslaco Texas , April 16 and 17.

Coach Ruben Martinez informed The News Gram of the District 29-AAAAA Tournament held in Laredo on April 10th and 11th.
In varsity mixed doubles, Eagle Pass' Ramon and Rueda defeated Winn's Delgadillo/Villa and Alexander's Ornes/Abboud before falling to United South's Mendoza/Valdez 2-6/2-6.
In varsity girls doubles, Eagle Pass' Cabral/Luna placed third after defeating Mendoza/Peñaloza of United South 6-4/7-6.
In boys doubles EP's Martinez/Gutierrez defeated Winn's Garcia/Martinez.
In varsity boys singles, Winn's Jose Jimenez defeated LBJ's Jose Avila 7-6/6-4.
EP's Kevin Pua waltzed through his first round match vs Jason Mims of United South 6-0/6-3, Then Pua took out Del Rio's Jose Morales 6-4/7-4.
EP's Noemi Tinajero defeated Del Rio's Mirna Hernandez 6-4/6-2, then she eliminated LBJ's Daisy Martinez 7-5/6-4.
EP's Leslie Rojas dispatched Del Rio's Kaya Davis 6-2/6-3 and Winn's Alexia Martinez dumped United South's Jocelyn Serna 6-0/6-1.

Denise Galarza of the Eagle Pass Eagles advised The News Gram that her 2014 Boys Varsity Team of Alberto Gomez, Ricardo De La Cabada, Abraham Diaz, Rodrigo De La Cabada and Juan Banda placed fourth overall in district.
The Girls Squad of Shiloh Morales, Andrea Martinez, Susana Zavala, Valeria Zavala, Aracely Cardenas and Martha Rhodes placed fifth.
Individual winners were not available at press time.
For Coach Beto Hernandez' Silver & Black Attack CC Winn Mavericks, senior golfer Gabriela Rangel has advanced to Regional competition by placing sixth on Tuesday after turning in an excellent 98 on Day 1 and a respectable 103 on Tuesday to advance.
"The key to this tournament is that it's decided on the second day when she competed against the best in the district," said Coach Pat Hernandez, "She held her own and did really well."
The Girls Team of Rangel, Paloma Garcia, Juliana Vasquez and Andrea De Alba placed fourth overall.
The Boys Team of Adrian Alvarez, Juan Muñoz, Andres Echevarria, Daigo Matzuka and Noel Torres came in fifth.
